The ABCs Of Keeping Frameless Glass Shower Doors Clean With Children

Maëlyne Fleury

If you are looking for shower doors that can open up a smaller-than-usual space and give you a functional enclosure that is easy to care for, frameless glass shower doors are definitely one of the more logical solutions. Even still, keeping these doors clean so they provide the most aesthetically appealing appearance can be a chore, especially if you have kids in the house. To keep your frameless glass shower doors crystal clean in spite of having kids in the house who tend to be a bit messy in the shower, there is a simple ABC rule set that you should keep in mind.

Always keep an absorbent bath shower mat inside the shower.

If your youngsters have dirty feet when they step into the shower, chances are all of that grime will end up splashed onto the shower doors when the water comes on. By placing an absorbent shower mat inside of the shower, you can help to alleviate this issue. The dirt-filled water droplets will make their way onto the mat instead of splattered all over the inside of the glass doors where they will dry, leaving behind dirt and residue.

Be sure to get rid of bar soaps and colored kid shampoos.

Bar soaps contain a high amount of paraffin, and paraffin combined with heat from a steaming shower will just contribute to soap scum build up on glass shower doors. Therefore, don't give your kids bar soap to use in the shower and instead go for liquid soaps that don't have waxy hardeners. Likewise, colored shampoos and soap products that contain dyes for changing the hue can also leave your glass shower doors looking grimy, so go with clear-colored soaps if you can find them.

Carefully create a layer of protection on the glass shower doors.

Perhaps one of the easiest ways to keep all of that grime from dirty hands and messy-showering kids from sticking, is to create a layer of protection on the doors themselves. You can invest in a glass shower door care product that is similar in composition to buffing wax. You simply apply a layer of this polish to each door, and it wards off water droplets and grime by encouraging it to slide right down into the drain. If you can't find a glass shower door protection product, you can actually achieve similar results with actual car wax. Just be sure to fully buff the doors after application to prevent waxy buildup that will not react well with heat or water.
